Next level Veneering Class 

Build confidence to create your one Chess board 

This class is designed for woodworkers who already have some experience with cutting and working with veneers and are ready to take their veneering skills to the next level.

During this class, you will learn different techniques for cutting and preparing veneer, including how to cut narrow strips and accurately line up the squares to achieve a clean, precise result.

You will create a beautiful veneered chess board from start to finish, while developing your skills in cutting, matching and processing veneers.

You will also learn how to glue solid timber edges with mitred corners onto a chipboard base, giving your chess board a strong and professional finish.

The focus is not just on making a chess board. It is about developing your understanding, accuracy and confidence with veneering techniques that you can use in your own future projects.

  • Selecting veneer

Session 1 – Introduction & Preparation

  • Overview of veneers: manufacturing, types, thickness, grain 

  • Tools and adhesives: how to select and use them safely

  • Cutting and trimming veneers for tissue box

  • Gluing veneer onto substrate

Session 2 – Cutting Veneer for front 

  • Learning how to cut veneer straight and precisely  

  • Cutting different types of Veneer for the front of box 

  • Joining veneer edges to create seamless patterns

  • Gluing veneer onto substrate
